Posted by on May 24, 2012 in Technology | 0 comments

I blogged about FNB GeoPayments the other day, and I finally have had a chance to test it out in the wild. Oh my word it is AWESOME!

A couple of us usual’s went out for dinner on Friday night and when the bill arrived, the norm happened where everyone works out their bit and then the plastic comes flying out. Chris M and I, being the uber g33ks that we are, got excited really excited when we realized we had the opportunity to try out the new GeoPayments.

See the guide from R B Jacobs below:

It really is that simple. Connect devices and bam, done! Awesome, awesome stuff from the folks at FNB. They really are winning the Battle of the Banks.

FNB GeoPayments – Cashless Banking

Posted by on May 10, 2012 in Technology | 0 comments

First off, no this is not a sponsored post, just a post that appreciates when a company makes innovative strides forward.

This is simply a post about how my bank keeps offering services that make them better than the rest and makes me proud to bank with them. Yes, I said I was proud to belong to a bank, and that bank is winning the Battle of the BanksFNB that is.

FNB have just launched GeoPayments, which is their term for NFC banking basically. NFC stands for Near Field Communication and this allows for device interaction simply based on their proximity.

GeoPayments is essentially the same thing and allows FNB customers to send and receive money from their cellphone without having to have their bank card even close to them. Seriously, how can you want to bank with anyone else?

Also, non-FNB customers are not left out. They can only receive money though and it will be placed into an eWallet which they can then transfer to their own bank.

Seriously, this is some very cool technology and I can’t wait to actually try it out.

You can read the full press release here, and TechCentral also covered the topic quite well.

Yahoo Announces Scott Thompson As Its New CEO

Yahoo! have just named their new CEO nearly four months after firing former CEO Carol Bartz. Scott Thompson will take the reigns from 9 January and his appointment has been met with quite a bit of hesitation due to him being a largely unknown until his appointment today.

Yahoo! has moved up from $13 since they fired former CEO Carol Bartz to $16 this morning after announcing the appointment of Scott Thompson as Yahoo CEO.
